Did you know? In 2019 the West Point Mint struck quarters for circulation for the first time ever and quietly dumped just 2 million of each design into change, turning every cash transaction into a mini treasure hunt.

Beginner tip: Flip the coin to the front and check the mint mark: a W instantly makes any 2019 or 2020 quarter a keeper worth several dollars.

First circulation-quality S quarters since 1954, sold only in rolls and bags at low mintages

2019-W ATB Quarters

$10 – $30 from change; $50+ certified uncirculated

First West Point circulation quarters — only 2 million of each of the five designs

2020-W ATB Quarters

$10 – $25 from change; more certified uncirculated

Second and final year of W quarters, each carrying a small V75 privy mark honoring the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II

Error types found on this series

Doubled Die (Reverse)

Same as a doubled die obverse, but the doubling appears on the back of the coin.

Grease-Filled Die (Struck Through Grease)

Grease and debris packed into the die's recesses blocked part of the design, leaving weak or missing details.

Missing Clad Layer

A dime, quarter, or half is missing its outer silver-colored layer on one side, exposing the copper core.

Off-Center Strike

The blank wasn't centered when struck, so part of the design is missing and part of the coin is blank.

Clipped Planchet

A bite-shaped piece of the coin is missing because the blank was punched from an already-punched part of the metal strip.

Die Crack

A crack in the die fills with metal during the strike, leaving a thin raised line on the coin.

Strike-Through

A foreign object — cloth, wire, grease, or a metal fragment — was on the blank when it was struck, leaving its impression in the coin.
